Historic league title beckons for SA-born coach

Another South African-born coach is close to winning a major trophy and league title outside the country's borders.

Former Golden Arrows coach Simon Ngomane is edging close to joining Pitso Mosimane and Morena Ramoreboli amongst the list of South African tacticians to win a league title in a foreign country.

Mosimane's first major trophy in Egypt was the league title with Al Ahly during 2019/20, whilst Ramoreboli secured the Botswana Premier League title on two occasions with Jwaneng Galaxy.

'Jingles' also won the CAF Champions League twice with the Red Devils, with Ramoreboli also taking Galaxy to the inter-club tournament twice in succession.

Now Ngomane is facing high chances of leading Nsingizini Hotspurs to their first league title in Eswatini this season.

Hotspurs, who were booted out of the CAF Confederation Cup tournament by Stellenbosch FC, beat Sea Birds 1-0 last weekend to maintain pole position in the MTN Eswatini Premier League.

The Shiselweni-based outfit currently sits at the summit of the standings with 51 points and four matches remaining. They are followed by Royal Leopards, who are three points adrift.

Nsingizini Hotspurs CEO Banele Ngobe says his team is happy with the contribution Ngomane has made since taking over the coaching reins this year.

“He has improved the team a lot. You can see how the team is playing, and it shows high level of coaching. Our coaches in our technical team have also benefited a lot from his knowledge and experience in football,” Ngobe tells KickOff.com.

“We are happy with the results. We don’t have pressure. We need to keep our mental strength in the remaining games and treat the last four games as cup finals."

Hotspurs host defending champions Mbabane Swallows in their next league game at the King Sobhuza Memorial Stadium in Nhlangano on Saturday.
