Pitso to be rivaled by Allegri among other managerial stars for Al Ahli job

Pitso Mosimane's future at Al Ahli Saudi remains uncertain in a possible contract standoff with the Saudi Arabian side reportedly eyeing managerial superstar names such as Massimiliano Allegri.

It has emerged in recent reports that Mosimane had signed a one-year agreement with Al Ahli that expires at the end of the season after guiding the sleeping giants back to the Saudi Pro League.

Mosimane's contract has an option for a second year but only in effect if both parties reach an agreement to extend.

At this point, there hasn't been any agreement reached with the former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician who is believed to be requesting an improved deal comparable to the top earners in the Saudi Pro League earn.

Reports from Saudi Arabia state that Mosimane contacted the club's decision-makers but is still yet to get any response about the extension of his deal.

This has been the biggest indication that his contract will not be renewed, paving way to start considering other options. 

Mosimane is also remarkably the club's 14th manager in the last five years.

Al Ahli have are being linked with several renowned European coaches such as Andre Villas-Boas ahead of their return to the Saudi Pro League.

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti reported that Massimiliano Allegri was being approached by the Saudi club with the Italian under pressure after being pipped to the Serie A title by Napoli.

Allegri seems unlikely with the Italian possessing a long-term deal until 2025.

Mosimane's name is already being linked with rival clubs in Saudi Arabia while the option of returning to North Africa also remains an option.

Wydad Casablanca, Raja Casablanca, and Zamalek have all been alerted to Mosimane's possible availability.

Kaizer Chiefs have also been mentioned as an option that will afford Mosimane the opportunity to return home again following a three-year spell abroad in Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Mosimane still has three games to play with Al Ahli in the chase for the R25 million worth title with his team sitting top of the standings.

He has won 17, drawn six and lost three since his appointment in September 2022 and has won trophies with every club that he has coached from SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Al Ahly.
