Injury update on Yaya Sithole

Now approaching a year since suffering a long-term injury, an update has emerged on Bafana Bafana star Sphephelo Sithole’s condition.

In September 2024, while on international duty, Sithole sustained fractures to his tibia and fibula, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign.

Now, nearly a year since he last featured in an official match, Sithole’s road to full recovery continues, as his club CD Tondela prepare for the opening fixture of the 2025/26 season.

Tondela earned promotion from the second tier last season while Sithole was on loan at Gil Vicente.

They are now set to kick off their 2025/26 Liga Portugal campaign with an away trip to SC Braga on Sunday, 10 August.

However, they will be without their South African playmaker, who has yet to make a full recovery, according to A Bola Portugal.

The publication reports that Sithole only resumed group training last Friday and was again involved in this week’s sessions.

The 26-year-old is reportedly not yet physically ready to be considered for selection, and the club are monitoring his condition closely.

Sithole joined Tondela in 2023 and was previously linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs. His contract with the Portuguese outfit runs until June 2027.
