Turkish club eyeing up Hlongwane

South African forward Bongokuhle Hlongwane is set to remain in the USA this year after turning down an offer from an unnamed team in Turkey.

Hlongwane's contract with Major Soccer League club Minnesota United is due to expire in January, however, the 24-year-old still has a one-year option with the club.

He joined the MSL side in 2022 after a successful three-year spell with Maritzburg United and since then has scored 21 goals in 91 appearances.

According to a KickOff.com source, the speedy player will meet with Minnesota before the end of this month to finalize his future with the club.

"There is a team in Turkey that is interested in signing Hlongwane. They have put in a good offer," said the source.

"But the boy is happy with Minnesota United. The club has treated him well and he is enjoying his stay in the US. He is currently at home here in KwaZulu-Natal and will meet with Minnesota when returns to America before the end of this month," the source added.

Capped 15 times at Bafana Bafana level, Hlongwane was earlier linked with a return to the Betway Premiership, but the player remains committed to pursuing his soccer career abroad.
