The South Africans faced Guinea in their bronze medal match on Sunday afternoon, going down 2-1 to leave the tournament empty-handed yet more importantly with a berth at this year’s U-20 World Cup in the bag.
Senong admitted to being disappointed after Sunday’s result following a number of missed chances by his charges.
“Guinea is a good team and we had chances, especially in the first half where we could have scored at least two goals and sealed the match,” he said.
“Unfortunately we conceded an own goal and the penalty which are part of bizarre things we always try to avoid in the game of football.”
Despite this, Senong was happy with the experience in Zambia and was happy to utilise his entire squad as the hard work towards the world showpiece in South Korea gets underway.
“This has been a great tournament and I am very happy that all the players got a chance to play,” he said.
