Ronwen Williams: France were a different level to South Africa

The South African men's national team was dealt a stark reminder of the work that remains to be done to improve after suffering a humiliating 5-0 defeat at the hands of reigning world champions France in Lille on Tuesday.

Les Bleus romped to victory courtesy of goals from Kylian Mbappe (2), Olivier Giroud, Wassim Ben Yedder and Matteo Guendouzi and could have scored more were it not for Williams in goal, who was forced into making 11 saves.

The SuperSport United shot-stopper was kept busy in goal throughout the encounter and later revealed that the French were simply on another level to Bafana Bafana in all departments.

"It was a wonderful experience and we learned so much but, obviously, it was tough," Williams told the SAFA media team on Wednesday.
