Morena Ramoreboli: It was not a good performance

South Africa maintained their 100 percent record at the tournament after edging Eswatini 1-0 courtesy of a second-half goal by Thabang Sibanyoni.

"It was a very difficult game, you know sometimes in football the opponent can make you play very bad but it's understandable, we never got enough time for recovery," Ramoreboli told SuperSport TV.

"But that's not the excuse, I believe we needed to steal the points today, it was not a good performance from our side but what was important was for us to get the three points, which gives us a chance going forward.

"The substitution of [Thabang] Sibanyoni, we're aware that they are one man down and whatever they do, they will never have three men in the middle so, obviously, with our mobility we did not need an extra player in the middle," he said.

"But we knew their centre-backs are heavy, we need to add another player there to give them some problems and I think it worked for us because we managed to get a goal.

"The [Sifiso] Ngobeni substitution, we're aware that [Nyiko] Mobbie we needed him more going forward and we needed Mphahlele to control the central space, that is why we had to bring in Ngobeni.

"And later on we brought on [Yusuf] Mart, the reason why we brought in Mart was to try and get mobility going forward and at the same time a bit of creativity, because I believe that inasmuch as [Basil] Mphahlele was winning a lot of balls but he was not as creative as Mart was," he continued.

"So it was important that inasmuch as they are one man down, we're not going to open the game and say 'lets go at them' but at the same time you should be aware that they might come and may get a counter-attack, which they managed to get few. So it was important because we always had numbers immediately after losing the ball."
