SA under-23 suffered a second successive defeat in Group A at the Tokyo Olympic games, losing 4-3 to France over the weekend after their 1-0 opening defeat to hosts Japan last week.
South Africa currently see themselves bottom of the group and next face Mexico on Wednesday afternoon (13h30 SA time), with a slim chance of progressing to the knockout stage.
Erwin Isaacs, who played for the under-23's during the era of the likes of Lebohang Mokoena, Itumeleng Khune and Daine Klate, has advised Notoane to forget about playing attractive football against the Mexicans and instead go for goals.
"To be honest with you, we had the game [against France]. When we went 3 - 2 up, the coach brought in two defensive players and that was his worst mistake," Isaacs tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"You can't play defensive against a team like France. I knew they going to come [back into the game]. They need to win at least 4-0, and France need also to win so we can qualify. We still have a chance... I hope so.
"I know it's a tough one against Mexico. The coach must go with three strikers now. They mustn't play that tika-taka. They must just hit the ball over the top [because] Mexicans don't like that football.
"Their defenders don't like it when you put the ball behind them, so the full-backs must just put it up there because we have a tall striker and they are fighters mos, man."
