Amajita secured their first-ever CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations title after defeating Morocco 1-0 in the final on Sunday night.
Three changes were made by Amajita coach Raymond Mdaka from the semi-final win over Nigeria as Mfundo Vilakazi, Shakeel April and Jody Ah Shene returned.
Amajita battled from the start and needed a remarkable one-hand stop from goalkeeper Fletcher Smythe-Lowe to keep out Ilias Boumassaoudi’s teasing shot.
At the other end, the South Africans broke away on the counter-attack through Ah Shene, who nudged into the area to force goalkeeper Yanis Marty into a fine save.
Smythe-Lowe remained the busier of the two goalkeepers, as he had to make another strong save to deny Moaud Dahak capitalising at the near post.
Amajita maintained a fair share of the momentum amidst the heavy pressure, with Vilakazi and Ah Shene keeping the North Africans on high alert.
Prior to the start of the second half, Morocco went to the substitutes bench and summoned on Ismael Tahar Aouad in the place of Dahak.
The contest remained even following the resumption, but the quest to get the opening strike continued to evade either nation.
Amajita were in dream land 20 minutes from time as Gomolemo Kekana thumped into the top corner from the edge of the box, with the goal being awarded by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) after it was initally flagged for offside.
Morocco missed a golden chance ten minutes to the end where a cross into the area found Othmane Maamma, who steered his header wide of the upright as Amajita held on to claim a first-ever under-20 AFCON title.
