2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers: Bafana Bafana duo Thibang Phete & Thabiso Kutumela ruled out of Zimbabwe clash

South Africa suffered a massive setback ahead of their World Cup qualifying Group G opener after Belenensese defender Phete and Mamelodi Sundowns forward Kutumela both tested positive for Covid-19.

"It is always daunting to try and pinpoint as to where and when the infection happened. Every measure is taken to ensure the safety of everyone in the camp."

The latest blow comes just days after Phete's club teammate Sphephelo Sithole was forced to withdraw from the squad after testing positive as well, while Masandawana midfielder Mothobi Mvala remains a doubt with a groin injury.
