Maduka magic lights up Royal AM camp

The return to the helm of John Maduka has boosted spirts in and around  the Royal AM camp as Thwihli Thwahla look to climb up the DStv Premiership table, according to sources.

Maduka shockingly left the club at the end of last season in favour of neighbours Maritzburg United, after leading Thwihli Thwala to an impressive top four finishing spot in the 2021/22 DStv Premiership campaign.

The spell across town did not work out as expected, with the Team of Choice struggling to find their form and it came as little surprise when Maduka was sacked at the end of October – leaving the club at the foot of the DStv Premiership table.

The 52-year-old has rejoined Shauwn Mamkhize's charges. Royal AM themselves have struggled in Maduka's absence, with just one win from nine matches prior to his arrival.

"Ya, there's a good energy and team spirit around at the moment, there's no one who isn't happy about Maduka's return. We're all feeling confident that positive results will come through," an insider tells KickOff.

Maduka marked his return to the club with a 2-1 win over Golden Arrows curtesy of goals from Mfundo Thikazi and Sedwyn Curtis George.

The win was a first for Thwihli Thwahla in after a run of three DStv Premiership games without a win.

Maduka collected his second successive victory with a Last 32 Nedbank Cup win over Cape Town City on Sunday, although the tie had to be settled via a penalty shoot-out.

Royal AM's next test will come on Saturday against a high-flying SuperSport United.
