Sage Stephens: No reason Stellenbosch FC can't beat Mamelodi Sundowns again

Reigning DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns welcome Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday in the first meeting between the two sides since the latter stunned the hosts towards the latter stages of last season.

That victory for has sparked a sense of belief within the Cape Winelands-based side's camp where the squad will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign with another win over Masandawana.

"I think it's in the past, that's last season," goalkeeper Sage Stephens told the club's media team. "We've set ourselves new goals as a team but then again, we've done it before, so there's no reason why we can't pitch up and get a victory.

Head coach Steve Barker added, "We are looking forward to the opportunity. "Obviously Sundowns have been the benchmark club in the country over the last couple of years and coming off a treble season, so we all know they have good quality and depth.

"But we did come off a good victory at the back-end of last season away from home so it's a great opportunity for us to guage where we are as a team this season. It's an exciting challenge that lies ahead but we have to go into the game with a certain amount of beief anf confidence that we can get an upset.

Stellies currently occupy eighth position in the league standings with six points from their four matches played, just one point behind Mamelodi Sundowns who played out a 1-1 draw with Sekhukhune United last weekend.
