With the league poised for a photo-finish on the last day, the PSL and sponsors Absa have been working behind the scenes planning for all possible scenarios. Currently, the championship battle is seen as a two-horse race between Tshwane side Mamelodi Sundowns and log leaders Bidvest Wits, but Cape Town City still have a mathematical chance of winning the title.
The three clubs will play their last fixtures in Tembisa (Sundowns in Makhulong Stadium), Soweto (Wits at FNB Stadium) and Polokwane (CT City at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium).
The two last black fixtures on Wednesday and 27 May 2017 will kick off simultaneously.
The PSL and Absa have put plans in place that will ensure that the trophy and medals are kept at a half-way distance between the two venues. This will ensure that at the final whistle, the trophy and medals are delivered to the 2016/17 champions without much delay.
Although the planning presents its own fair share of challenges, the big picture is that football fans will be kept in suspense until the final whistle on May 27.
While the championship race has grabbed headlines, another battle is playing itself out at the bottom of the log in the relegation fight. With as many as five candidates, the fight for survival is also bound to be finalised on the last day of the season.
