Pitso Mosimane backs Hlompho Kekana for Footballer of the Year

Kekana has played a key role in helping Sundowns maintain their spot at the summit of the standings, scoring five goals in Downs’ impressive season thus far, which has seen them gone 16 matches unbeaten in the League.

And despite the club’s potent ‘CBD’ combination making most of the headlines, coach Mosimane feels Kekana deserves many of the plaudits as well.

"He [Kekana] is showing South Africa that in this point in time, in the central midfield, ‘I'm running the show’," Mosimane said.

"He is running the show. I will be surprised if he is not a contender for the Footballer of the Year. He scored important goals against Maritzburg United.

"He scored against Mpumalanga Black Aces … he scores everywhere.

"I will be surprised if he doesn't get nominated."

Mosimane also added that Khama Billiat, Keagan Dolly, Tebogo Langerman, Thabo Nthethe and Wayne Arendse have all done well and deserve to be recognised.

"I will be surprised if Khama doesn't contend and I think Keagan Dolly has done exceptionally well,” he continued.

"Dennis (Onyango) has been superb. Thabo Nthethe has been great, underrated Wayne Arendse has given us stability.

"For me Tebogo Langerman is the best left-back … I respect Thabo Matlaba, he has done well, Tsepo Masilela is doing well … but Langerman has done well."
