Nedbank Cup match report Swallows FC v TS Sporting 05 February 2022

Swallows FC progressed to the Nedbank Cup round of 16 with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over TS Sporting on Saturday afternoon.

The Dube Birds started goalkeeper Thela Thela, Fawaaz Basadien and Monnapule Saleng amongst others, whereas veteran defender Rooi Mahamutsa debuted for Sporting.

Swallows started on the back-foot in the opening seconds and could've been trailing but Thela made a point-blank save to deny Mohau Mokate.

Abantu Bemtheto used their inspired start to good effect in the 20th minute and took the lead when Sibusiso Fakude helped a loose ball from close-range past Ngobeni.

Swallows instantly looked to go back level again over 30 minutes played and had a snap shot from a tight angle by Lehlogonolo Matlou cleared off the line by Mahamutsa.

The Dube Birds weren't done troubling minutes before halftime and witnessed Matlou head a cross from the right-side onto the front of the near post.

Dylan Kerr made a triple change at the restart, with Dillan Solomons in for Kagiso Malinga, Ruzaigh Gamildien introduced ahead of Mwape Musonda and Sphesihle Mbhele in for Matlou.

These changes turned to good effect after 48 minutes as Gamildien flicked a free-kick into the path of Yagan Sasman, who needed no second invitation.

Kerr's men then took full control of proceedings whereby Gamildien created an opening after five minutes to help a well-worked move past Samkelo Mbambo.

Sporting battled to recover and re-implement their dominant opening midway in the restart, as Swallows closed in on a third through a speculative drive outside the area from Mbhele.

Abantu Bemtheto were able to regain confidence in the latter minutes which saw chances for amongst others Paseka Sekese and Mokate, but neither capitalise as the hosts advanced to the next round.
