In this latest edition of My First, former Kaizer Chiefs striker David Zulu speaks to KickOff about his first experiences on and off the field.
Zulu made his professional career debut at Black Leopards where his goals helped the Limpopo province club earn promotion from the National First Division to the topflight.
My First School:
"Khethelihle Primary School in Mondlo in KwaZulu-Natal. At 6 years of age, I was initially told I was too young. So they tested if I was ready by asking me to count to up to 10. They didn't know I was ready and prepared [laughs]. After I did the counting, it was only then that I was registered."
My First Kiss:
"I was doing Grade 11 the year was 2002. I was 16 years old when I experienced my first kiss. She was in the same school as me."
My First Child:
"I was already married and playing for Kaizer Chiefs when she was born in 2017, her name is Siphosethu. She is nine years old now. I'm married to her mother whom I met in 2012."
My First Soccer Boots:
"I'm not sure whether it was a Jomo Sono King or what, but it was one of those old boots. They were bought for me by one of the club owners in the amateur ranks. My whole football career, I don't remember buying soccer boots with my own money."
My First Red Card:
"I have never received one [laughs], I'm not a violent person."
My First Own Goal:
"I have never scored one. My whole football career I knew exactly which goalpost I was supposed to score in [laughs]."
My First Goal:
"I scored my first goal in the PSL at Black Leopards against Chiefs."
My First PSL Match:
"It was against Orlando Pirates and I was at Black Leopards."
My First Individual Award:
"It was the NFD golden boot, the same year I promoted Black Leopards. It was the 2010/2011 season."
My First Car:
"I bought it in 2008. It was a Toyota Tazz, was financed by the bank."
My First Signing-On Fee:
"I got it at Chippa United, but it was not even R1 million, but it was quite a lot. It was less than R500 000."
