Mario Booysen says he didn't fail at Kaizer Chiefs

When things don't work out at big teams some players find it hard to bounce back, but not for former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mario Booysen.

Booysen was amongst the players who were released by Chiefs when they were sorting out their camp after a poor last season.

The defender, who has now found a new home at AmaZulu, has broken his silence about his spell at Naturena as he was speaking with the media ahead of their clash against Stellenbosch at Princess Magogo Stadium tonight.

"For me, I never fail. In football you don't want to have regrets, you rather take positives and move on. That's why I'm still playing football because if you look at negatives you are going to sulk and can't bounce back," Booysen said.

"This is the downfall of a lot of players because thinking too much about the past, it's not about not working out for me, it's about learning. I have to be open-minded and professional about it. It's water under the bridge and that's why I'm still on the pitch, so I would sum up to say it was a learning curve for me."

The former Ajax Cape Town and Maritzburg United centre-back has put his time at Chiefs behind him and appreciates the chance he has been given by Usuthu to revive his career, and his focus is to reward them.

"There were a lot of things happening but it's water under the bridge and I'm focusing on AmaZulu FC ,and that is the most important thing for me right now," he added.

The 31-year-old did not have the best debut for Usuthu as he scored an own-goal in the 5-0 Telkom Knockout mauling against Mamelodi Sundowns.

As much as he is unhappy with that, he believes it is not always about individual errors and says the team has proven that by bouncing back with a 1-0 win at Baroka in their last match.

"A debut that I don't wish for but it happened, you have to be mature about it," he said.

"Because there's a lot of things that you want to achieve with the team you know, it's not about me or individual errors. In football you always get another chance and I think we did well against Baroka, we had to bounce back."
