Lucas Radebe encouraged by Cape Town City's decision to name Benni McCarthy head coach

McCarthy was yesterday unveiled as the Citizens’ new coach by club boss John Comitis, replacing Eric Tinkler, who surprisingly up and moved to SuperSport United earlier this month.

And Radebe, who is a firm advocate of the bettering of South Africa’s talents, believes the appointment of McCarthy at the Mother City club is a sign that things are headed in the right direction in the country’s footballing structures.

“It’s great [to see McCarthy named Cape Town City coach],” Radebe tells snl24.com/kickoff.

“It says a lot about our football and where we [South African football] are heading and again given the opportunity.

“It’s great that Cape Town City can look at Benni at that level and give him the opportunity to do that.

“That shows that there’s a lot of room for most of us to take the stands or to take the opportunity to be coaches. I think this encourages a lot of ex-players and it inspires them,” concluded Radebe.
