Kaizer Chiefs players not happy with Gavin Hunt, says Valery Nahayo

Chiefs are without a win in the last eight games and sinking into a myriad of crisis in the lower half of the standings and already out of the Nedbank Cup, while they are walking in darkness in the CAF Champions League.

For Nahayo – who spent three years at Chiefs starting 58 games – he feels the players are just not playing for Hunt at Naturena.

"For me I think players are not happy with the coach, maybe it is his behaviour, tactics or training methods. When I was playing at Chiefs nothing like this ever happened. I don't remember us losing two games in a row but now is eight games in a row without a win but now players still go out and feel free to be on social media after all of this. In this case you must find out whether the problem is players or management," Nahayo tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"Players are not happy. These are the same players that were there last season. For me the players don't want the coach. That is my opinion. They just don't want the coach. The players are mature and professional in their conduct because they get paid and have everything to perform on the field but if the result is not coming, they don't care. Maybe the players think this coach will be fired. I know how players operate.

"South African players are different from European players or other African players who are open enough to approach the coach and tell him that this thing that you are doing is not good and we don't like it so can you please change it. However, with the mentality of South African players they will rather train and talk to the coach nicely as if all is well but behind his back they will say, 'His training is nonsense and he thinks he knows it all.'

"This is the same team that was there last season but today they cannot do the same thing and are failing to perform. I cannot blame the big boss [Kaizer Motaung] or Bobby [Motaung] because they are providing everything for the players. If things are like that then the players are not happy with the coach, but they cannot say it. Maybe the tactics used by the coach or his training methods are the problem. If every team wants to take points from Chiefs, then it means there is a problem. I think the problem is the coach. I am not saying the coach is bad but then I think the players are not happy with the coach, but they cannot say it.

"So, seeing the team playing the way it is doing means there is a problem that people on the outside don't know but inside they know. Inside they can't say it because Bobby can find out who said this or that, so they are always afraid of that. There are so many snitches at Chiefs, so it is hard. You can even see with the way some of the former players are talking about the club on television, yet they were earning their money because of gossiping and telling the bosses what other players are doing. South Africa is a big league and people must be honest with each other and it is worrying that some ex-players are wishing those that are still playing bad luck."
