Mamelodi Sundowns booked their spot in the final of the Home of Legends Cup after beating Chippa United 5-3 penalties after a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon.
With most Sundowns regular players on national team duties, The Brazilians gave players who have not seen much game time a chance, as the likes of Kobamelo Kodisang, Erwin Saavedra, Rushine De Reuck and goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse started.
Both sides were vying for a spot in the final after Kaizer Chiefs beat Golden Arrows 2-0 earlier in the morning, thanks to goals by Mfundo Vilakazi and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
Chances were hard to come by in the early exchanges and The Tshwane giants only drew first blood on the half-hour mark courtesy of youngster Siyanda Msani.
However, it took Chippa just six minutes to equalise as the game heated up.
The sides took their foot off the pedal again towards the half-hour break, as they went to the interval level pegging at 1-1.
After the first 20 minutes from the break did not produce opportunities, Masandawana decided to make changes as Kutlwano Letlhaku, Neo Maema, Thando Buthelezi and Bennet Mokoena.
There sides eventually could not be separated and went to penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Sundowns won the penalty shootout 5-3 after a winning goal from Arthur Sales as they setup a final against Chiefs.
