Gavin Hunt picks his Player of the Season!

Gavin Hunt has picked the player he believes will walk away with the coveted PSL Footballer of the Season award, whilst also making his choice in matters relating to the Coach of the Season.

Several players have stood out in what was a bumpy 2024/25 season that ended with 15 teams competing due to Royal AM-related complications, but Lucas Ribeiro Costa of Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates sensation Relebohile Mofokeng are the two on everyone's lips.

Hunt, a veteran coach of three league titles, has chipped in.

"My Footballer of the Season is that little man from Mamelodi Sundowns, Lucas Ribeiro," said Hunt, who turns 61 in July.

"What set Ribeiro apart from other players is that he scored goals and he created goals. That's the most important thing."

Ribeiro finished top of the Betway Premiership goal-scorers chart with 16 goals, meaning he will walk away with the Golden Boot at the awards ceremony which have been postponed to a later date due to Sundowns' FIFA Club World Cup participation.

Interestingly, it was Ronwen Williams from the Tshwane giants who claimed the accolade last season after a stellar campaign between the sticks. He also won Goalkeeper of the Season.

Hunt, who parted ways with SuperSport United towards the end of 2024/25, also made his pick for the Coach of the Season award.

"Coach of the Season is Steve Barker, the coach of Stellenbosch. I just feel to achieve what he's achieved with the squad that he had this past season, it's a great achievement," he says.

Rulani Mokwena claimed the honour last term after leading The Brazilians to a seventh successive league title.
