Zuma is yet to play under Baxter since the veteran gaffer returned to Chiefs almost a year ago despite having now become available for selection.
The 27-year-old started the season injured and with his frustrations building up he was then caught up in the controversy of driving while under the influence of alcohol case at the beginning of November.
The club was forced into suspending him from all football activities before being brought back into the squad into the New Year and he has now since been on the bench twice though yet to play.
"Dumi has been doing obviously better in training and that is why he gets selected for the bench," says Baxter.
"I don't think it is a case of let's wait six months and then after that, we can bring him back.
"This has been…Dumi conducted himself better, properly and approached his job in the correct manner, and given some performances in training so that is why we think if called upon he is now in the position where he can answer that call.
"So, I can't tell you when exactly he is going to come into the because that will depend on a lot of other things, but it also depends on Dumi keeping his levels high and making sure that he looks after himself and behaves properly," says Baxter.
Zuma is into his fifth season at Chiefs since arriving from Bloemfontein Celtic.
The last time he earned minutes for Chiefs was in May last year against Simba through a season in which he scored once in 19 appearances all of which were either as a substitute or he was pulled out after starting.
He is stuck on 100 appearances and a dozen goals for Chiefs.
