Kaizer Chiefs got back to winning ways in the DStv Premiership with a 2-0 victory over Maritzburg United on Wednesday evening.
Chiefs made three changes to the side that lost to Royal AM, as they recalled Khama Billiat, Phathutshedzo Nange and Ramahlwe Mphahlele while Maritzburg were boosted by the return of shot-stopper Marcel Engelhardt.
The Team of Choice had an early chance to go ahead in the ninth minute after Amadou Soukouna went through on goal from Leletu Skelem's defence-splitting pass but he dragged his shot wide.
Arthur Zwane's charges took time to get into the rhythm of the game and once they got going, Billiat eventually broke the deadlock ten minutes before the half-time break with a low strike past Engelhardt after a cut-back by Njabulo Blom.
The hosts had the attacking momentum after that and Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya should have doubled their lead just before the half-time break after a brilliant through ball by Keagan Dolly over the top found him unmarked on the far side of the box but he guided his volley just over the bar.
Ernst Middendorp made a tactical change at halftime, as Bongokuhle Hlongwane replaced Zukile Kewuti and it almost paid off as striker had a big chance to level matters two minutes in after pouncing on a poor back pass by Daniel Cardoso but he was denied by shot-stopper Daniel Akpeyi.

Maritzburg were threatening from set-pieces and Keegan Ritchie almost forced an own goal eight minutes into the second stanza from a corner after Mphahlele flicked his whipped effort into the bottom post.
Chiefs were causing problems on counter-attacks, with Billiat spurning good chances and Zwane was forced to make a change 17 minutes before time after Nange needed medical attention and he was replaced by Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
Nkosingiphile Ngcobo had an instant impact, as he put the game to bed for Amakhosi ten minutes before time with a curling strike into the far post after he was teed up by Billiat.
Daylon Claasen forced a save out of Akpeyi in stoppage time with a strike from range, as Chiefs kept a cleansheet to move up to third on the log.
