Kaizer Chiefs claimed their first win of the DStv Premiership season with a 1-0 victory away to Chippa United on Tuesday night. Daniel Akpeyi was thrown straight back into the Chiefs line-up after recovering from injury and was joined by Philani Zulu, Siyabonga Ngezana and Kearyn Baccus as the other changes for Gavin Hunt. While the opening exchanges proved to be quiet, Chiefs had a good chance to take the lead before the 20th minut through a forward run from Khama Billiat, but the final shot went way past Chippa goalkeeper Veli Mothwa. NEWS: CAS delivers Chiefs ban appeal verdict The Chilli Boys received another scar at the midway point when Leonardo Castro headed against the post from close-range after getting onto a cutback from Daniel Cardoso. Chiefs hit the woodwork once again a minute from the half-hour mark through a powering close-range free-kick Lebogang Manyama, with Mothwa well beaten on the line. The woodwork frustrated the Glamour Boys yet again on 38 minutes when a flick on from Castro released Billiat, who carved space near the area before going on to strike the frame of Mothwa's goal. The Soweto giants had a glorious chance to take the lead ten minutes after the break, but watched Castro's acrobatic attempt spurned by Chippa goalkeeper Veli Mothwa. Manyama was given a chance to open the deadlock on 64 minutes after going through the area off Billiat's through pass, but Mothwa turned behind for a corner. Mothwa was at it again when he astoundingly helped Cardoso's thumping shot near the area for a corner-kick before denying Ngezana from the resultant corner, before Frederic Nsabiyumva's clearance landed onto the post. Mothwa was finally beaten on 77 minutes when a cross from Manyama found Chippa defender Gregory Damons who turned the delivery into his own net. The Amakhosi had a few openings to double their advantage in the final minutes, but settled for a slender win.
