DStv Premiership match report Cape Town City v Chippa United 03 November 2021

Cape Town City secured back-to-back DStv Premiership wins for the first time this season after defeating Chippa United 1-0 Wednesday evening.

The Citizens shuffled the pack from the MTN8 final, as they recalled the likes of Mpho Makola, Tashreeq Morris and Abdul Ajagun while the Chilli Boys also refreshed their line-up, as Thokozani Sekotlong and Sizwe Mdlinzo returned.

The hosts had a good chance to grab an early lead after a good cross by Khanyisa Mayo inside the box but Ajagun's shot went straight to goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali.

With the Chilli Boys embarking on counter-attacks, City star Craig Martin made a crucial clearance in the closing stages of the stanza as the sides went into the break goalless.

The opening exchanges of the second stanza did produc goal-mouth action in the early stages, which saw City coach Eric Tinkler make a double change just after the hour-mark, as Mduduzi Mdantsane replaced Morris while Thato Mokeke came on for Makola.

City started to threaten after that as they a had a penalty appeal 20 minutes before time after Ajagun was brought down inside the box but the referee was not persuaded.

Ajagun had a chance to snatch the winner for the Citizens seven minutes before time with a volley from Martin's knock down that sailed over the crossbar.

However, the Nigerian midfielder found the back of the net minutes later with a close-range finish to send the Citizens up to eighth spot, while the Chilli Boys extend their winless run to eight matches.
