Chipezeze: Williams & Chaine should be given credit

Magesi FC's first-choice goalkeeper, Elvis Chipezeze, feels honored to be mentioned in connection with the 2024/2025 Goalkeeper of the Season award.

Both the popular television programs Extra-Time and SoccerZone have recognized the Zimbabwean as this season's best goalkeeper.

Chipezeze played a crucial role in helping Magesi lift the Carling Knockout trophy, participating in 30 matches across all competitions and achieving 12 clean sheets, despite conceding 31 goals.

"I'm just grateful for the work we are putting in as a football club because, without the team, my name wouldn't be linked to the Goalkeeper of the Season award," Chipezeze tells KickOff.

"At this stage, I'm not even thinking about the award itself. Just being mentioned in such a context and having my hard work recognized means a lot to me; I couldn't ask for more."

Chipezeze acknowledges that although the 2024/25 season is not his best in South Africa, it will always hold a special place for him.

"I've had better seasons in South Africa, but this one is definitely at the top of my list, especially with what we've achieved as a team this season," he said.

"There have been many goalkeepers performing well at their respective clubs, like Ronwen Williams and Sipho Chaine. Credit should also be given to them."

He added, "For me to be mentioned among the candidates for the best goalkeeper award is an honor, especially considering the caliber of goalkeepers we have in our league."

Chipezeze disagrees with those who claim there is a goalkeeper crisis in South African football.

"No, no, no! We have a lot of quality goalkeepers in this league. Just look at all 15 teams, and you will see there is quality throughout."
