Bafana Bafana won't be at the 2023 Africa Nations Championship after a humiliating 6-1 loss on aggregate to Angola on Sunday afternoon.
It was a mountain to climb for the host following the first-leg defeat, and featured Reyaad Pieterse, Mosa Lebusa, Sphelele Mkhulise and Monnapule Saleng.
Bafana Bafana set their intentions clear inside five minutes when Prince Nxumalo headed in a pin-point free-kick after arriving unmarked in the six-yard area.
A second beckoned within a few minutes from a smart header by McBeth Mahlangu that flew over the top from a corner by former Orlando Pirates defender Wayde Jooste.
The visiting nation grew in confidence following the difficult start and levelled seven minutes before halftime when Lebusa turned a low teasing cross into his own net.
However, in the second half the host struggled to contain the visitors whose pace in attack proved difficult for the likes of Lebusa at the back.
Bafana looked for more dominance in attack and introduced Thabiso Kutumela for Mothobi Mvala before Siphesihle Ndlovu entered for Sabelo Radebe.
The visitors weren't troubled near the closing exchanges and grabbed a second through a well-taken finish by Deivi Vieira.
More woes befell Bafana as the Palancas Negras increased their tally in the last 20 minutes courtesy of a sublime free-kick by Paciencia Capitango that nestled off the underside of the crossbar.
Bafana remained on the ropes and conceded a fourth when an unmarked Daniel Kilola tapped in a low free-kick with 12 minutes to go from point-blank range.
A quiet closing minutes came with the tie completely in the balance for the Palancas Negras on-route to next year's CHAN and saw Bafana to a heavy defeat in the end.
