Cape Town City captain Thami Mkhize explains importance of doing well against Soweto giants

City are brimming with confidence after securing their second consecutive MTN8-final against the same opposition in SuperSport United, and are looking to maintain their momentum ahead of the their showdown with Matsatsantsa by doing well in the Absa Premiership.

Mkhize says they are fully focussed on their home match against Amakhosi this afternoon at Cape Town Stadium (15h00), and then they will turn their attention to the Buccaneers three days later at Orlando Stadium.

“Honestly, it’s a very important game [against Chiefs], considering we are playing a big team,” Mkhize told reporters.

“We’re playing at home, so it’s very important that we do well. It should serve as motivation for us that whenever we play at home, we must make sure that we win and [when] we travel away we don’t lose.

“So this is gonna be another opportunity for us to display our football on the field and to make our supporters happy. So, I believe we’ll do well as a club.

City, who have registered just one victory in their four matches, welcome a Chiefs outfit still in search of a first win this term.

Mkhize, however, has warned that Chiefs, who are currently languishing in 13th spot, should not be underestimated despite their slow start to the campaign.

“I wouldn’t say that it’s a good or bad time to play Chiefs, as we all know [that] Chiefs is a big team and they can turn things around at any time,” the former Maritzburg United player warned.

“But I’m glad we are playing them now since even for us we are having that assignment that we’ve been doing well in the MTN8 and we want to keep the momentum. We wanna make sure that we keep on doing well and prepare ourselves for the MTN8-final.

“So yeah, we wanna play them now because after that we play Pirates….it’s a good preparation for the final.”
