Sekhukhune sink newcomers Magesi

Sekhukhune United started their Betway Premiership campaign with a 1-0 victory over newly-promoted Magesi FC on Wednesday night.

Njabulo Ngcobo, Thabang Monare and Kgeletso Makgalwa were all handed their league debuts for Sekhukhune while the newcomers handed starts to new signings, Mpandle, Delano Abrahams and Kgaogelo Sekgota.

While Sekhukhune came in to the clash with competitive minutes under their belt, Dikwena were playing their first competitive fixture of the 2024/25 campaign due to the league starting late.

The home side enjoyed more of the possession in the early stages but had to wait until the 27th minute for a clear-cut opening, but Sikhosonke Langa sent his close-range effort wide of the mark.

Sekhukhune got their reward on the stroke of halftime, as Andy Boyeli opened his account for his new club on debut by firing past Mpandle after being set up by Vusimuzi Mncube.

Magesi coach Clinton Larsen responded with a double change in the second period, with Sekgota and Matsemela making way after a quiet first half to be replaced by Maloisane Mokhele and Tshepo Kakora.

The game began to open up as the second half continued as Chibuike Ohizu was denied by a fine save from Mpandle, while Magesi new boy Gift Motupa squandered a big chance in the 73rd minute after firing wide.

Lehlohonolo Seema's side managed to see out the rest of the clash to open their league campaign with maximum points and a clean sheet.
