Mohau Nkota bagged two goals for Orlando Pirates, who defeated AmaZulu 2-1 to move top of the Betway Premiership table on Friday night.
The Buccaneers were unchanged from Tuesday's win over SuperSport United, as former Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori started for Usuthu on his return to Orlando Stadium.
The breakthrough nearly materialised after the opening ten minutes with a short-corner from Mohau Nkota and Relebohile Mofokeng playing in Maswanganyi, who dragged wide.
Usuthu displayed a sense of urgency right thereafter to have Riaan Hanamub come inside to tee-up Tshepang Moremi for a strike, but Thabiso Sesane hurried back and aborted danger.
Deano Van Rooyen wasn't able to continue before the half-hour mark and stretchered off, with the returning Paseka Mako coming on.
The situation didn't affect the Soweto giants who went ahead through Nkota, who fired in the top corner for his first senior goal.
Nkota continued running havoc minutes after breaking the deadlock and grabbed a second goal with another telling finish from a lay-off by Mofokeng.
With their backs to the wall, Usuthu decided to freshen up the personnel ahead of the second period and brought on midfielder Hendrick Ekstein in place of Ethan Brooks.
Nkota remained the go-to-man for the Sea Robbers after he very nearly completed a hat-trick after running onto Mofokeng's long ball, but he dragged wide of goal from six yards out.
The Buccaneers remained in control and dished out passes with ease as the visitors scrambled to find a footing nor pose the opposite number Sipho Chaine any problems.
Usuthu nearly conceded a third late on through a stomping effort from a clever distance by substitute Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, but Richard Ofori palmed for a corner.
There were some joy for the visitors in the dying minutes with Ekstein applied a bit of brilliance in possession and fired past Chaine, but it was too little late as the Buccaneers held on to make it five wins in a row.
