Absa Premiership match report Baroka v Maritzburg United 26 January 2020

January signing Ethen Sampson was given his debut for Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele. Meanwhile, Thabiso Kutumela, who netted the winner against AmaZulu, dropped to the bench as Judas Moseamedi led the attack for the visitors.

Mxolisi Kunene, who netted the winner in the reverse clash this season, came close to haunting Bakgaga again but Baroka shot-stopper Elvis Chipezeze smothered his far post attempt inside 15 minutes.

Bakgaga should've gone ahead on 26 minutes when Ranga Chivaviro headed an inch-perfect cross from Gerald Phiri Junior beyond the intended target.

Sampson showed quick instincts from a corner kick on the stroke of halftime to turn home a loose ball after the visitors failed to clear their defensive lines for his first league goal.

The Team of Choice heeded the call from Eric Tinkler in the second half as Moseamedi beat Chipezeze to a looping delivery to head into an unguarded net four minutes after the break.

Chipezeze was unable to continue after a collision with Moseamedi in the build-up saw the Zimbabwean stretched for Ayanda Dlamini.

Bakgaga forced Ofori to a double save minutes after surrendering the lead as Sbonelo Ngubane and Kgosto Maloka registered two threatening efforts in quick succession.

Baroka introduced Tshidiso Patjie in the 80th minute for Chivaviro- a change that would prove telling as Patjie ran on to a long ball over the top to fire past Ofori nine minutes later.

The Team of Choice were denied a late equaliser when Dlamini pulled off an acrobatic save from Rushine De Reuck's smart header to give his side three crucial points.
