Bandile Shandu opened the scoring for United in the eighth minute with a sensational long-range strike that dipped into the bottom corner, 1-0.

Andrea Fileccia almost doubled the Team of Choice’s lead in the 17th minute with a chance at the back post but he could not direct his header on target.

Pogiso Sanoka was unlucky in the 26th minute for United after his header was cleared off the line following a free-kick from Deolin Mekoa

Bakgaga were often caught on the counter-attack as they were playing a high line with five minutes of the half to go but Fadlu Davids’ men were not timing their runs to perfection and took a 1-0 lead into the dressing room at half-time.

Siphesihle Ndlovu doubled the visitors’ lead two minutes into the second stanza with a cracking strike, 2-0.

United were in control of the match after the hour-mark and always looked threatening on counter-attacks.

Belgian striker Fileccia was finding opportunities and gaps behind the Bakgaga defence, but he could not often beat the offside trap.

Mohau Mokate had a chance to make it 3-0 for United in the 81st minute with a free-kick from the edge of the box but his strike sailed over the bar.

Fadlu Davids’ men showed their defensive qualities in the last 10 minutes of the match and managed to keep the home side at bay to clinch the important three points.
