2019/20 Absa Premiership Top Scorers update - 25 August 2020

Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango has been leading the scoring chart for quite some time but this may soon come to an end amid his ongoing drought.

Mhango has not found the back of the net in his last seven games, dating back to his brace against Chippa United at the start of February.

This has seen the Malawian star lose plenty of ground in the race for the Absa Premiership Golden Boot award come the end of the campaign.

It could however be argued that the four-month interval during the Covid-19-enforced national lockdown and subsequent suspension of football didn't do him any favours.

"I talk to Mhango almost every day in training or after training, just to motivate him that the goals will come," said Bucs skipper Happy Jele of his teammate's goal drought.

"But it's not about him only, it's about the team – each and every one needs to score, but sometimes it puts pressure on its own from him, and we don't want that.

"Sometimes we as a team have to make sure that he's always calm, so that when he gets a chance he can finish it off."

The 27-year-old has now seen his tally of 14 goals equalled by Highlands Park frontman Peter Shalulile, who has scored two goals in three outings since the PSL restart, while Kaizer Chiefs' Samir Nurkovic trails by just one goal.

Meanwhile, reigning Absa Premiership top scorer from 2018/19 and Black Leopards new captain Mwape Musonda has rediscovered his form, with three goals in his last two games seeing him break into the list of top 10 scorers this season.
