In the latest edition of Story Behind My Nickname, KickOff catches up with former Orlando Pirates and Jomo Cosmos legend Julius Sono on the origin behind his popular nickname "KK".
Who and where did you play?
"KK is a June 16 founder member. It started here in Orlando. It was started by me and Saul Minus Mashinini, who brought along Tsietsi Mashinini and Seth Mazibuko.
"Myself and Minus decided to be associate members. We were members of Cosasa on June 16. We were student representatives. I was 15 years old.
"I also played professional football for Jomo Cosmos and Orlando Pirates."
What's your nickname?
"KK"
Who gave it to you and why?
"This name King Kwaito was given to me by local musicians or local celebrities. That's what encourages me to motivate the youth when it comes to football even today.
"I loved giving people shibobos. It's more due to my style of play. I loved dribbling."
Did you like it?
"Very much. If people give you something, there should be a collective agreement on their organisational right."
Anyone that didn't use it?
"In Europe, they don't use the name Julius at Fifpro where I'm a national executive chairman.
"Also, my girl fans, they don't call me KK. They prefer calling me Tivani. My grandfather's name was Tivani Zinjiba."
If you relive it, what would you want your nickname to be?
"Already, I've changed my nickname to Scara, which was my father Eric Sono's nickname. Being 50 years old, means I'm now a grandfather. I'm now Scara Sono."
Who should we ask for their nickname first?
"Ask Yster Khomane where got that nickname from. He was my friend at Pirates."
