Riveiro explains why Pirates trust quality Kimvuidi

Orlando Pirates head coach Joe Riveiro has explained why the Orlando Pirates squad had full confidence in new signing Karim Kimvuidi taking the winning spot-kick to secure the MTN8 title.

The Buccaneers won 3-1 over a dominant Mamelodi Sundowns side in a penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw after extra time at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

With Sipho Chaine having saved three of The Brazilians' penalties, it was up to attacking midfielder Kimvuidi to seal a back-to-back MTN8 title for The Sea Robbers.

Speaking on SuperSport TV's Extra Time on Monday night, Riveiro and club vice-captain Tapelo Xoki insist they had no doubts that Kimvuidi was the right man for the task.

"It is [a lot of pressure], but he did it fantastically, we trust him in that scenario as well. He is player that, honestly is used to shooting lot of penalties during the week," Riveiro said.

"He is usually after the training with Mpontshane, shooting penalties, teaching each other. You can see the security in what he is doing and the way that he is facing that discipline.

"He is a quality player and he managed to show fantastic composure.

Xoki, who had missed his spot-kick, added: "It was great for us to see because he does that in training, we were not surprised with the run-up, with the technique and for him to pull it off in that stage, it was great for us to see."

Pirates will return to competitive action with a DStv Premiership clash against AmaZulu on Tuesday, 24 October.
