Saleng told: 'Pirates blessings belong to Pirates, you can't take them to Chiefs'

In this edition of Supporters Forum, prominent Orlando Pirates supporter Jwara shares his thoughts on the current situation regarding the club and their star player, Monnapule Saleng.

It seems Saleng is unhappy at Pirates after reportedly being denied a move abroad by the CAF Champions League quarterfinalists.

Jwara expresses concern about the potential loss of the winger to one of the side's rivals and urges him to remain with the team.

"Let's hope the issues between Saleng and the club are resolved because our left wing position is lacking," notes Jwara.

"As Pirates supporters, we will be deeply disappointed if a star player like Saleng decides to take the wrong path and join another team. The club gave him a platform to showcase his talent. He won't survive without Pirates.

"We understand that as a footballer, sometimes you need game-time or money, but we will never be happy if he leaves Pirates. If that happens, we will wish him what we wished for [Thembinkosi] Lorch, saying, 'Hamba juba bayokuqutha phambili.'

"The Orlando Pirates blessings belong to Pirates, you can't take them to [Mamelodi] Sundowns or [Kaizer] Chiefs."

Jwara believes Saleng's situation would be worse than that of Lorch, who left for Sundowns in January 2024.

"Since 1937, this club has stood strong. You can't go against us."

He also commented on the Soweto giants' positive performance in the CAF Champions League.

"To be honest, we finished the job here at home. We made things easier for ourselves, so our players will head to Egypt without pressure. We should thank them for respecting the brand, as well as the supporters who come to Orlando Stadium week in and week out.

"Our trip to Egypt comes at the right time, as we've already accomplished our goals. Although it will be a grudge match since Al Ahly doesn't have a good record against us, we expect our players to fight."

Jwara expresses optimism about the group stage. "We are fortunate to be in the same group as Al Ahly. I believe that this year's Champions League champions will be between Pirates and Ahly, as we won't face each other in the Quarter-Finals. There's a great possibility of winning our second star as Orlando Pirates."
