Pirates' new hero speaks on first goal

Midfielder Simphiwe Selepe has opened up scoring his first goal for Orlando Pirates in a 1-1 draw against AmaZulu.

The Buccaneers wrapped up their away fixtures for the season with a 1-1 draw against AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Patrick Maswanganyi had bumbled the ball into his own net in the 66th minute to put Usuthu ahead, and it took academy product Selepe to restore parity 11 minutes later.

The midfielder was playing only his fourth match in the professional ranks since making his debut against Golden Arrows mid-May.

Speaking to the club's media after the AmaZulu match, Selepe said he was pleased with his output, although there was room for improvement.

"In the first half, we created chances, some we didn't take," the 20-year-old said.

"The game was a bit scrappy because they had more control of the ball. We played mostly second balls, which is not our normal style of play.

"I'm happy to help the team get back to the game with the goal. Although we did not win, we wanted a better result, and there is a lot I think we can fix for the next match."
