In our exciting feature, My Welcome to the League Moment, KickOff catches up with former Orlando Pirates left-back Bheki Nzunga.
Nzunga also featured for Chippa United, FC Cape Town, Black Aces and Baberwa FC.
Nzunga says he will never forget his first season in the Premier Soccer League, where he had to chase Thuso Phala for an entire 90 minutes.
"We were playing against Platinum Stars in the North West, during a pre-season tournament in Rustenburg," Nzunga tells KickOff.
"Orlando Pirates were playing Platinum Stars, and I was facing Thuso Phala.
"It was a top-four pre-season cup, we were preparing for the new PSL season.
"And I had to face Thuso Phala, and he was very fast.
"That is the day I realised that now I'm in it to work for it.
"I had to stick to him always, and not give him even a small space because he was fast and, very skilful.
"So, I decided in my head that, with pace, I won't match him, but with skill, I can at least manage him.
"So, I decided to follow him everywhere he went.
"That day, I knew from the onset that I was going to have a hard time. I had to manage him.
"My teammates kept on encouraging me saying, if you give him space you won't catch him.
"His fitness was above everything, I think at the time, he was the fittest player in South Africa.
"So I was told beforehand not to give him a space.
"But I think in the end, I won that battle because I never let him out of my sight.
"I don't remember what the final score was, but I remember we won that match because we had the likes of Benson Mhlongo in our team, and we won that cup."
