Mathe: Before every match I'd go to the toilet

In this edition of My Locker Room Secrets, former Orlando Pirates player Solomon Mathe reveals what used to take place in the club's change room during his stay there.

Mathe won the Telkom Knockout Cup two times, in 2007 and 2013. He also won the MTN8 in 2013.

Whose locker room are we in today?

"Solomon Mathe and Orlando Pirates. Solomon is from Boipatong in the Vaal.

"I played for Silver Stars, Orlando Pirates, Bloemfontein Celtic and Platinum Stars."

Who was always late?

"Gift Leremi took the cake in that one. But I loved his passion for the game. He always pushed us to work harder."

Any interesting ritual before you played?

"Before every match, I would go to the toilet and pray. I wanted some privacy in my prayer sessions."

Who was the jokester?

"We had plenty of those at Bucs. Though he came second to Steve Lekorle, Lelo Mbele makes the list with his poor English, sitting next to him you never stopped laughing.

"I'd also count Tonic Chabalala, he never stopped talking. I used to call him Mshefane because he was stammering."

Was it a muti change room?

"We prayed, though you know the story of South African clubs (laughs)."

Who was the singer?

"The former Orlando Pirates kit manager Pule, and Lucky Lekgwathi didn't want to be outdone as well when it came to such."

Who was the best dressed and the worst dressed?

"Chippa Lekoela was the best dressed. He would dress in stylish jeans and t-shirts, though he would diss the late Gift Leremi for wearing the UZZI brand.

"Leremi loved the brand with all his heart. He'd wear all-white UZZI clothes, sometimes all-red or all-black.

"Lucas Thwala was the worst dresser. He would wear these bootleg trousers."

Rate the coach's team talk

"Kosta Papic didn't say much, he preferred motivating us as players.

"He made players believe they were the best that one."
