In this edition of The Story Behind My Nickname, KickOff catches up with former Orlando Pirates striker Reason Chiloane about the origin of his nickname 'Hour'.
Chiloane admits he could have done better in his Premier Soccer League career.
Who and where did you play?
"Reason Chiloane played for Garankuwa United, Thanda Royal Zulu, FC Azziz Kara and Warriors."
What is your nickname?
"My nickname, just talking about it, it's very touching. I was a serial killer, they used to call me Hour, since my youth days.
"At Pirates, they used to call me Mphathi, but that name was given to me by Lucky Lekgwathi. But that one didn't become popular.
"Most people know me as Hour, they were saying I used to do things right in time. Cometh the man cometh the hour.
"I got the nickname still playing at Happy Boys from Bush Bucks Ridge. There was a game I played for our school. I was 17 at the time.
"There was a school tournament and in the semi-final, I started from the bench. We were losing 2-1. I came on in the dying minutes of the game, I headed in a goal from a corner kick and the score was now 2-2. The Golden Goal Rule was applied. Within the first 10 minutes of the first half, I scored another one. I ended the game and everyone ran onto the field celebrating.
"That was the day I earned the nickname Hour."
Who gave it to you why?
"There was this guy called Rashidi, he is the one who gave me that nickname, for the same reasons mentioned above. He was my former teammate."
Did you like it?
"For the fact that he did explain his reasons, I did like it."
Anyone that didn't use it?
"Even now, I'm a coach where I am and people are still calling me Hour.
"When I joined Garankuwa United they gave me the nickname Kleinbooi Taaibos, and it became popular that name everyone was calling me 'Taaibos' (laughs)."
If you could relieve it, what would you want your nickname to be?
"I would never trade Hour for anything. When you call me Hour, I become emotional.
"Looking back at my career, I tortured a lot of teams in football. I've scored goals, I have decided games. So each time I hear somebody say Hour, it takes me back. I feel good about it.
"I have made history in life, it's only in the Premier Soccer League where I did not do much history and that's still eating me even now."
