'He fits in the category of Ace Mnini and Teenage Dladla'

It seems Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng is not only inspiring other youngsters with his sometimes breathtaking displays, now even the great Joel 'Ace' Mnini of Moroka Swallows fame is waxing lyrical about the lad who has been making PSL defenders dance.

The legendary Mnini, who, along with an equally skilled bevy of footballers that entertained the masses back in the good old days, has given Mofokeng his stamp of affirmation.

He believes the 20-year-old now belongs to the category of the best players to have played in the left-wing position in the South African game.

Mnini says taking into account talent and age, Mofokeng is in elite company.

"The boy is good enough if you take into consideration the current generation," Mnini says, speaking to KickOff.com.

"In our generation, we had our way of playing football. Mofokeng, at the age he is right now, must continue concentrating on football and not become big-headed.

"That's what kills most youngsters.

"I rate him as the best player in his position. He fits in the category of Ace Mnini and Teenage Dladla. Like us, he attacks when in possession of the ball. He doesn't dribble standing in one place.

"A good left-winger is one that challenges the opposition's defence and supplies strikers. Luckily, this boy can score goals," he adds.

Mnini, a winger par excellence in his heyday, laments the current status quo, saying whereas his generation's wingers used to attack all the time, that is rarely the case these days.

Of Mofokeng, he adds: "I think he can lead Bafana Bafana to greater things, especially if they allow him to start games."

In the 14 appearances he has made so far this season, Mofokeng has made five assists and found the net four times, and will be hoping for more of the same on Tuesday against Richards Bay FC.

Kick-off at Orlando Stadium is 19:30.
