Bafana legend hails Pirates magician

Endless praise has been heaped on evergreen young star Relebohile Mofokeng, who was on the score sheet as Orlando Pirates were dumped out of the CAF Champions League on Friday.

Bucs fell 3-2 to Egyptian side Pyramids at the Cairo International Stadium and with that their exit from the Champions League was confirmed.

Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota each scored for Pirates, but the goals were not enough to stop the rampant hosts, whose goals came via Fiston Mayele (brace) and former Stoke City man Ramadan Sobhi.

Despite the defeat, Doctor Khumalo was left impressed by the efforts of one Mofokeng, who had opened the scoring with a venomous volley.

"When you look at the goal Pirates scored, you look at the position of the goalkeeper, and Mofokeng's eyes are looking at that space," the Bafana legend enthused on SABC Sport.

"When the ball is played, the keeper starts moving, he has already moved from the position he was initially in.

"Now, look how Mofokeng kicks this ball - that is individual brilliance!

"The technique he used, he saw that the keeper was moving with the ball, and he redirected it where the keeper was coming from, and we have to give it to him.

"That volley was a very good technique," said Khumalo.

Going into the league match against Sekhukhune United at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday, Mofokeng is sitting on four yellow cards with the Soweto Derby, the last instalment of which he contributed to the winner, looming.
