Vasco have travelled almost 2000km, from their base in Parow, to Giyani for their meeting with the ABC Motsepe League club, which is currently leading the standings in the Limpopo stream of the country’s third tier league.
Winners Park – who were previously in the first division – are hoping to capitalise on the long distance travelled by Vasco to reach this Xitsonga speaking town which also has vastly different weather conditions to Cape Town – where Vasco are based.
“It will definitely be a tough match for us because we are playing against a team from one division above us but we are really hoping to make home advantage count for us," Robert Mokgola, the Winners Park managing director tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"I know that they don’t enjoy playing in the kind of conditions that are found here in Giyani. I wish I could increase the temperature tomorrow so that it becomes even more difficult for them to play.
"We are used to playing in very high temperatures so we will use the afternoon heat to our advantage,” he adds.
Winners Park are currently coached by Joel Mongalo, who played as a goalkeeper for the now defunct Real Rovers back in the NSL days.
Senzo Sam Ndlovu, who previously played for Maritzburg United, SuperSport United, Jomo Cosmos, Carara Kicks, University of Pretoria and Baroka FC, provides the element of experience for Winners Park.
“He (Ndlovu) is familiar with playing against these kinds of teams and we hope his experience will benefit us,” says Mokgola.
Vasco have been in Limpopo since Thursday as they bid to acclimatise to the weather conditions in Limpopo.
