Nedbank Ke Yona team v TS Galaxy

TS Galaxy reigned victorious in the Nedbank Ke Yona match after defeating the Ke Yona team 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Galaxy paid tribute to fallen star Thembinkosi Mbatha, who lost his life a week before beating Kaizer Chiefs to win the Nedbank Cup, as the first-timers looked for their first Ke Yona title.

The home side opened the deadlock on nine minutes as Samukelo Shangase curled into the bottom corner after cutting in from the right flank.

Galaxy doubled their advantage two minutes later when Sanele Barns beat the offside trap to head into an empty net following a pin-point cross from the right.

The Ke Yona team responded with a change as Aphiwe Maliwa came on as the first substitution  27 minutes in, as Khabo Zondo launched a come back. However, Galaxy almost added to their tally five minutes later, but Shangase failed to beat Christopher Maoto who parried to safety.

A minute from coming on Blessing Mchunu missed two guilt-edge chances to the opener with Maoto making back-to-back saves at the near post.

The start to the second half was evenly balanced with the Ke Yona side slowly gathering their midst to orchestrate a come back into the match. Galaxy's tempo from the first half dropped slightly, as the young guns showed more will-power to hold their own against the Nedbank Cup kings.

The Ke Yona side halved the tally in the 71st minute after Thulani Cele popped up in the area to slit past Ludwe Mpakumpaku.

Unfortunately, there was no comeback close to full-time as the GladAfrica Championship side held out for the title while the Ke Yona team's six year wait lives on.
