Nedbank Cup title a realistic target for Highlands Park, according to captain Tapuwa Kapini

Highlands beat AmaZulu away from home in the last 32 and they will be on opposition territory again when they take on Cape Town City in the Mother City tonight (20h00), determined to get their name in the hat for the quarterfinal draw.

Winning the Nedbank Cup would also give Highlands an opportunity to play in the CAF Confederation Cup next season, which would be a good experience for the club according to Kapini.

“I’ve played in Africa with Silver Stars and I’ve played in Africa with Highlanders [Zimbabwean club], so this is a great opportunity for us. If we can focus, then we can go all the way.

“I think we have a good coaching department and that helps us a lot, especially when we are playing away. It’s not going to be easy against Cape Town City because they have been doing well at home. In a cup game you don’t reserve anything, so I know coach Benni is going to come out guns blazing to try win the match. But we want to also win the match so that we see Highlands Park in the next [round] draw.”

Kapini’s compatriot and teammate, Tendai Ndoro, expects an entertaining game from two sides that play good football.

“We went to Durban with the mentality of saying we want to proceed to the next round and we did. We are playing Cape Town City now, which is a good fixture for both teams. Cape Town City is playing good football and we are also playing good football.

“We would like to proceed because it’s a tournament. It can take you to Africa and open doors for our players.”
