Chippa head coach Norman Mapeza rang a few changes from the loss to Orlando Pirates, with Ruzaigh Gamildien, Thabiso Lebitso and Elvis Moyo starting.
A poor back pass from Galaxy at the back invited Augustine Kwem in with an opening after 10 minutes, but he fired wide of target after charging at Ludwe Mpakumpaku.
Another clear opening fell to Chippa seven minutes later after Lebitso's delivery from the right found Gamildien, who dragged the delivery wide of the far post with the goal at his mercy.
Both sides were at one another thereafter with clear openings in sight; however neither took initiative leaving either defence untested.
The Rockets strongly pushed for the opener shortly after halftime, but Sizwe Mdlinzo blazed a decent chance wide, as Chippa introduced Silas Maziya for Lebitso on 58 minutes.
That miss would come back to haunt the defending champions minutes later after Gamildien atoned for his earlier miss with superb finish from distance to give Chippa the lead.
Dan Malesela's side were unfazed and instead launched their comeback strategy with the introduction of Khayelihle Shozi, who replaced Tshepo Chaine moments later.
Chippa however killed off the contest 74 minutes after Maziya supplied a telling ball to Kwem who needed no second invitation.
The Rockets looked for some sort consolation before fulltime, but Kwem fired home his second in the 89th minute to oust the defending champions at the first hurdle.
