Moses Mabhida Stadium fan rampage court proceedings set for August

On May 25 the magistrate adjourned matters, with ten of the fans appearing on that day. The court proceedings resumed yesterday with an extra supporter now in tow.

The fan riot took place at the 2010 World Cup venue on April 21 after Kaizer Chiefs lost 2-0 to Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

Supporters assaulted security guards and damaged the venue to the tune of R2,6 million among other acts of hooliganism.

On the day 12 people were treated for injuries at the stadium, while six were admitted to hospital and later discharged.

Coach Steve Komphela resigned immediately after the game amid safety concerns following three years without silverware under his watch at Naturena.

In court on Tuesday were: Dennis Nyembe, Sihle Zungu, Nolwethu Sokotha, Douglas Mkhize, Lungisani Jaca, Phelelani Jojisa, Cebolendoda Hadebe, John Khumalo, Khwezilomo Madiba, Siphsenkosi Memela and Zibongile Njova.

They are not allowed to attend any sporting event for the duration of the trial.
