Steve Komphela well aware of Kaizer Chiefs expectations

After all the behind the scenes works of pre-season over the past six weeks, Komphela must now start delivering straight away, starting with this afternoon’s Carling Black Label Cup clash against Orlando Pirates.

While the match might not count for much, it doesn’t take away the magnitude of the encounter, which falls just four days before the MTN8 clash against Komphela’s previous employers Maritzburg United.

“This team did tremendously well last season and you cannot take that away from the history of the club,” the coach acknowledges.

“Historically, Kaizer Chiefs are always gunning for trophies, which is what I have to be as well by assuming the responsibilities and accept it with all that comes with it, and also hope we will do well and, where possible, do better.”

“The pre-season has obviously given us indications, even though you know that it is not a complete product as yet as you are still building it, moulding it and, when it reaches its finality, that is when you can make a conclusive analysis."

Though the MTN8, Telkom Knockout, Nedbank Cup and ultimately the Absa Premiership make up the list of trophies that really count, for now Komphela might as well just aim at warming his hands to what lifting trophies means by getting a feel of the Black Label Cup.
