That craving for silverware will have to start off at the expense of his former employers – Wits – the club that laid the path for his rise to stardom.
Sundowns and Wits meet in the MTN8 final at the Mbombela Stadium tomorrow, with kick-off scheduled for 17h00.
A Sundowns versus Wits cup final might be a rare occasion, but for 'Vila' it will feel different as he faces off against a team whose desperation for a first trophy since 2010.
Having lost the last two cup finals that Wits reached – the 2011 Telkom Knockout and 2014 Nedbank Cup – while still at Sturrock Park, what is it like being in a different space of players who are actually used to winning trophies?
"I will not say I am not familiar with [the vibe] because the term that you are looking for is winning," argued the man who has only one winners medal in his cabinet – the 2010 Nedbank Cup.
"Everyone wants to win and you want to associate yourself with players that want to win everything. For me, coming here [to Sundowns], I had already seen an opportunity of [winning] with these players. Here it is quite possible to win things.
"I mean, with the standards of the club and the mentality of wanting to win everything, for me it is about coming in and trying to add more to the team – trying to add more to what they have achieved.
"For me it is combining the two – me wanting to win and the team wanting to win – so it is a combination," added Vilakazi, before reflecting on the agony of the last two cup finals he reached with The Clever Boys.
"It was disappointing to have lost those two [finals] but now is a different situation and hopefully it is going to be a turnaround for me and the team.
"The most important thing is the continuity of the team. I think with this one [MTN8], since we are in it, we might as well go all the way because I think we have worked very hard in this tight schedule. I feel we deserve a trophy with the effort that we have put in.
"I am looking forward to this one just like my teammates are too. The preparations have been going on very well and everyone is fit, which is the key thing. Let us see what happens," concluded the Bafana Bafana forward.
Vilakazi is expected to feature in an attack that will have Pitso Mosimane spoilt for options, with the likes of Khama Billiat, Keagan Dolly, Percy Tau, Anthony Laffor and Yannick Zakri all raring to go.
