PSL charges Mamelodi Sundowns' Gaston Sirino with assault for Clayton Daniel, Dean Furman slap in MTN8 semifinal

More misery is in store for Mamelodi Sundowns after star midfielder Gaston Sirino was charged with assault for his actions last month.

The skirmish that erupted in the MTN8 semifinal second leg on September 18 that had Sirino and SuperSport United's Clayton Daniels at its centre has resulted in charges of assault and bringing the game into disrepute for the diminutive Downs playmaker.

Sirino was seen to lash out at both Daniels and his teammate Dean Furman as a group of players squared up to each other at Lucas Moripe Stadium, with the Uruguayan now set to appear before the PSL Disciplinary Committee on November 11.

If found guilty of assault, Sirino is likely to be suspended for at least two matches, as per the NSL rule book.

This website has managed to obtain a copy of the charge sheet, which also confirms that Sundowns have been charged with bringing the game into disrepute as the player is on their books.

SuperSport came out of the match 2-0 winners on the night and went on to win the tournament, beating Highlands Park in the final.

The Brazilians, meanwhile, are contending with a separate PSL charge for their coach Pitso Mosimane following his outspoken recent comments on referees in the build-up to their 2-0 league defeat to Kaizer Chiefs last weekend.

Mosimane has been given until Friday to respond to a letter from the PSL asking him to explain his comments claiming Kaizer Chiefs have been "benefitting" from the decisions of match offficials.
